NOVEL SIMPLE Ch9: Weird things. (Z)
New life means new actions.
Getting use to life here, Zack has been doing nothing much other than working on his magic and talking and learning things from Sarah. And with all that 2 years have passed without much going on, all he has is that he has gotten use to having Sarah around him and turned 15 in this world. While he still recalls the story now and then he has given up on trying to run away... Sarah is scary when she caught him once... So he choose to find a way to make all of them avoid a bad future, but it seems like he won't be having to do that caus-
"ZACK!, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?"
"Tomas, can you learn to shut it for a bit? Or how about you learn to lower your voice, you are only getting louder."
"Hahaha! Sorry just got a bit excited. I got to talk to Miss Beth awhile ago!"
The person Tomas was talking about was a widow by the name of Beth, someone that Sarah help get together with Tomas for some reason. It seems she move here after her husband died due to illness... after a month of an arranged marriage so I guess there is that.
"Anyways, Tomas why are you here? I thought you would have started working at the bar by now?"
"Hahaha! I just wanted to drop by to see what you are doing! I am heading to work don't worry."
"As you can see, I am testing out my magic at the current moment. Sarah was chewing me out last time cause I took a break last night so... here I am?"
"Ah, the wife got mad at you HAHAHA!"
"That is not funny."
Choosing to not listen to the dark skinned man who is telling bad jokes, he chooses to ask something before Tomas started to leave.
"Hey Tomas."
"Yea what is it?"
"Why are you dating Beth? Like I know she is pretty and all but is she not like 23? You are 15 right?"
Tomas hearing this, puts on a face Zack as never seen in his two years being here so puts full focus on him.
"Listen Zack, I will only say this once."
"Y-Yea? What is it?"
"Like husband like wife, they both stutter."
"Get to the point..."
"I like older women"
Hearing this, Zack losings all focus he has on Tomas and goes back to his magic. Paying no mind to the man standing next to him.
"Hey man, are you ignoring me? Look I will stop the wife and husband jokes."
"That is something I can get behind, anyways what about that work?"
"OH SHIT! OK SEE YEA BRO!"
Seeing the man run off, Zack tried to go back to learning the best ways to use his magic when...
"Z-Zack... why a-are you standing there doing n-nothing...?"
Scared by the voice he just heard, he turned his head to see Sarah. Standing at the end of the alley leading to the main busy street, holding a bag of food.
"L-Look Sarah, I was not slacking I was-"
"Looks l-like someone did n-not learn..."
Saying this, Sarah held a small pebble in her hand and a threw it in the air, only for a bubble to catch it and send it fly at a faster speed to Zack. Hitting him in the chest.
"OOHH, why did you do that?!"
"W-Well, this is the b-best way to get one to do things at s-school, I just c-copied!"
Seeing Sarah's proud face, Zack could not help but get more mad, but cooled down and explained what happened.
"Look, it really was not my fault, Tomas dropped by and we talked for a bit and you just caught me at the end."
"W-wait, are you saying I-I hit you for n-no reason...?"
"Yea."
Hearing this, Sarah put on a shocked face and did the best she could to take say she was sorry.
"O-Ok... I was i-in the wrong there... I j-judge too quick and attack f-for that. But you h-have to admit you have a h-history..."
"... I hate to admit that..."
At first Zack thought it would be fun to learn magic and all it has to bring, but then he learned that most people are born with only one type of magic and stuck with it for most of their lives. With him learning on how to get it going, he was looking forward to something like lighting or fire but all he got was a thing called Sound magic. Sarah told him how it works and just get to be used to it... but it has no attacks that he knows of and is only used in mappings. By Sarah's words since its useful, most high-borns would wish to hire him if they knew.
"But.. its boring... its just a bunch of sounds and images in my head. Its no fun."
"W-Why you litt- Woah... O-Ok, if its boring for you I understand. B-but just try to learn it so that we can get into school next y-year."
By those words Zack recalled that Melstar Academy was having a event where people of all ages and status can come and try out to join the school. Main reason being is that Sarah just wants them to live better lives and have a more hopeful future. This is also the reason why Zack thought there was nothing he had to do to change the future. It seems that Sarah is so different from the story that such a future cannot be seen for such a person. Only problem being...
"All you got to do is f-follow me Zack, by doing this I can m-make sure that we will b-be quite happy..."
"Yea... got it..."
After the two years of knowing Sarah, she has change in the case that she seems to react more to the future and him. He does not think its out of l0ve or anything like that... just feel like they are looking too much at a goal. Hearing Zack's reply, brought a bright smile to Sarah's face from the blank look.
"Ok! L-Let's eat now! A-And as sorry for hitting y-you I will give you the fruits!"
"Alrighty, But are you ok with just bread and meat?"
"...M-Maybe not but you can have t-the fruit..."
"No, let's share for now."
Seeing that she accepted a bit, she started to eat her share and handed his, which was most of the food...
'Honestly I do wonder, where did Sarah get all this know how. For a 14 year old there is too much for her to know, like how did she know about how to learn magic. Also how does she know the pros and cons of Sound Magic? Ah who cares, she is one of the reason I can still live sort of. I just hope nothing bad happens at this Academy she wants to go to.'
Without her seeing, he put a bit more food on her plate without her knowing, and just thought of ways to get into school without magic... Or not, don't want another pebble.
