I Don’t Want To Court Death!

Chapter 2: The Seraph of Life Descend (Remastered)

In the Dawn Rift World, on the Ivory Continent, a Spirit Awakening Ceremony was taking place in the prestigious House of Yang. The adult members of the House of Yang were gathered around a large alter as children of their house walked up to a large, multi-colored alter. It emanated great power and holiness.

When a child stepped up to the alter, it glowed with magical lights and sent down streams of multi-colored energies. Everyone was nervous as they stared at the children, especially their own, who were each awakening their magical power and grimoire.

One child stood before the alter and clasped his hand. The winds howled and the clouds churned. The child grunted as the magical energies around him converged into a grey-colored book. The person with a notepad was standing beside the child and wrote something down.

"Yang Cloudwind; Storm Magic; Rank 1 Awakening: Storm Warrior Grimoire."

The child stepped down with the grey-colored book. Another child stepped up and proceeded with the ceremony.

"Yang Greenflame; Fire Magic; Rank 1 Awakening: Flame Warrior Grimoire."

That child stepped down with a red-colored book. The procession continued as children after children stepped up.

"Yang Blueflower; Water Magic; Rank 2 Awakening: Water Snake Grimoire."

"Yang Shang; Healing Magic; Rank 1 Awakening: Lesser Medical Grimoire."

"Yang Zhan; Sword Magic; Rank 3 Awakening: Iron Sword Grimoire!"

The crowd cheered as a child with a black-colored book decorated with sword-shaped patterns stepped down. The boy ran toward his excited parents and hugged them.

Many members of the house looked over at the family with jealousy. Some children's spirit awakening were mediocre, while some other children's spirit awakening were extraordinary. Overall, around eighty-percent of the children had first-rank awakenings.

Hours passed by until the last child stepped up toward the alter. The crowd hushed when they noticed his beautiful black hair and vibrant green eyes. Clearly, the House of Yang was well-acquainted with this particular child. He clasped his hand and began praying like the children before him.

At first, the alter was silent.

Exactly ten breath of time later, the alter trembled and began glowing with myriad of colors. The sky and earth darkened, the clouds and seas distorted, and the land trembled. The alter then blasted a beacon of magical power toward the sky. The clouds gathered around the beacon.

"What the hell is going on?"

"Dear God, what's happening!?"

"Such immense magical power!"

The members of the house ran away when they felt the incredible phenomenon created by the alter. The man with the notepad chanted and summoned many spell circles that sealed away the alter. However, no amount of interference could stop this divine phenomenon.

The spell circles broke and the man with the notepad coughed up blood before another man took him away. Strangely, the child in front of the alter was calmly chanting and seemed unaffected by the phenomenon or the chaos around him. By now, the sky changed into the color of gold and the earth transformed into the color of jade.

The beacon of light waned after ten breath of time since it appeared. However, when it did, green and golden lights descended from the hole in the clouds, along with a large figure.

The figure had a total of twelve wings, each white-colored. It wore a green laurel wreath with a white toga and golden battle armor. In its right hand was a golden khakkhura decorated in many rings and ornaments. In its left hand was a jade-colored orb that emitted an aura that could transcend space and time.

No one could see its face or complexion, yet everyone knew that this holy being was most beautiful and most powerful creature in existence. It was the embodiment of life, a paragon of power, and a symbol of justice. All evil and that which is ghostly and demonic would be put down by his righteous staff and witnessed by his magical orb.

The man who saved the ceremony's administrator with the notepad looked at the holy figure and sighed with amazement. "That's the legendary Seraph of Life. Highest angel among the noblest angels. Second to none, but the God of Life."

That man was none other than House Lord Yang, and the father of the last child on the alter. The Seraph of Life descended to the alter and kissed the child's forehead before fading away, leaving behind a green-golden book. The child collapsed before touching the book.

House Lord Yang caught his son before he fell and grabbed the book as well.

"Yang Yang; Life Magic; Rank 9 Awakening: Life Essence Grimoire...."

.......

Within the central hall of the House of Yang, House Lord Yang and Yang Yang were sitting across each other.

"Son, listen carefully. You were born with godly talent and have created a great disturbance. Although, we wiped away the memories of most people during the Spirit Awakening Ceremony, there's not a single place here that's safe for you in the eastern frontier. I'm sorry for this, my child, but I going to send you far away."

"Father, I..." The boy's murky eyes were filled with confusion. He was too young to fully process his father's words.

"Say no more!" With pained eyes, House Lord Yang touched Yang Yang's forehead and caused the latter to collapsed. A spell circle appeared on Yang Yang's forehead and then disappeared.

"With this Memory Seal, he won't remember anything." House Lord Yang caressed his son's hair for some time before taking out a piece of paper and a brush. After he was done writing, he cast a spell on it to secure the seal. "Shadow One."

A large figure dressed in black suddenly appeared in the hall. The large figure knelt on one knee and bowed his head. "Reporting to House Lord."

"Shadow One, take Yang Yang and send him to the Ivory Royal City with this letter. Give it to his majesty, the King. Make haste!" Without looking at his son any longer, the house lord handed the letter to Shadow One.

Shadow One quickly took the letter and Yang Yang away. House Lord Yang sighed before taking out a jug of wine. He tilted his head and gulped the entire jug down.

"I'm sorry, son. However, you are a chosen of the gods. There's no way you can be here. I'm sure that you would have a better opportunity if you are within the Ivory Kingdom. There is no safe place here for you. If only the war did not occur here..."

House Lord Yang's hands trembled as he struggled to even hold his wine jug. Tears welled up in his eyes, but he steeled his heart. The light of the moon reflected on his tears, making the man's eyes shined with sorrow.

......

Within the royal city of the Ivory Kingdom, a middle-aged man was sitting in a study room before turning around and seeing a large, dark figure.

"Your majesty, our House Lord wanted to give you this." Shadow One gave the letter to the middle-aged man. When the latter read the letter, his eyes opened wide and looked at the child that was in former's arms.

"I get it. You may leave." When Shadow One disappeared, the middle-aged man clapped his hand and a large-nosed butler appeared in his study. "Hurry up and take this child to the servant lodging. Prepare him to be a new butler, and make sure no one knows about his existence. Make up a sufficient backstory for him as well."

The butler took the child without question and quickly disappeared to the servant lodging. The middle-aged man sat back down and sighed.

"Aye. A good seedling. Though, what a pity fate must tear him a part from his family."

......

Within the servant lodging, the large-nosed butler placed Yang Yang into a room at a remote location. The butler closed the doors quietly. Within the room, Yang Yang opened his eyes.

"Hm? I just awakened my memories and now I'm in an old, dusty room? Something doesn't seem right."
