I Reincarnated into a Game Filled with Mods

Chapter 89

Cough, cough!

As soon as I regained my senses, I immediately started coughing. My mouth felt completely parched. I moved my tongue to roughly sweep across my cheeks and gums before sitting up.

‘So this is why I fainted and woke up.’

It was a very informative moment as I understood why the protagonist, who had been drawn into the Abyss in the game, had fainted and then regained consciousness. There wasn’t a part of my body that didn’t hurt.

The fact that a shadow wrapped around me and dragged me down did not mean I was gently embraced. It was closer to being roughly grabbed and thrown to the ground.

The surroundings were utterly dark. Up, down, front, back. Every place my eyes reached was soaked in black. If it hadn’t been for the Abyss lying beneath my feet, I would have definitely lost my sense of direction.

The floor was a horrible sight, resembling black goo that made me feel queasy just by looking at it. There was no bare ground to be found. The only materials forming the space were the Abyss and shadows.

At least it was a relief that there was no restriction on rolling like in the Lowest Level of the Rune Dungeon.

‘The Runes… must be working properly. I’m still alive and kicking.’

I fiddled with the back of my left hand. The ‘Rest in the Abyss’ Rune was essential for the Boss Fight against the Creature Abandoned by God, due to this space engulfed in Abyss and shadows.

When opening the barrier door for the boss fight, if you didn’t have the rune equipped, the moment you got engulfed in shadows, your character would die with a crunch sound as all your bones shattered.

Furthermore, if you entered here with the rune equipped and then removed it, your character would similarly get engulfed in shadows and die, with the corpse sinking into the Abyss beneath your feet.

In either case, if there was no Rune, the character would die immediately. It was another factor that raised the difficulty level of the boss fight against the Creature Abandoned by God.

—Owner.

I heard a faint voice calling me from somewhere.

The owner of that voice was none other than the final boss of the DLC, the Creature Abandoned by God. Since this was its domain, it would have instantly realized someone had entered.

Rustle, I drew my Blood-Stained Sword. The corridor was straight. As I stepped forward slowly, the shadows and Abyss slithered and converged, filling in the spot I had just passed.

‘It would be nice if I could go straight to the Boss Room…’

Unfortunately, that was not possible. As I walked casually through the corridor, a mob would inevitably appear to block the player. I had to take that creature down.

Wriggle, just as I finished that thought, the corridor ahead was blocked by shadows rising up from the ground. It was a signal to prepare to fight.

I pressed against the shadow wall that filled the corridor with my hand. It was a wall with an immense elasticity, akin to rubber. When I pressed my hand and then pulled it back, it rebounded and returned to its original form.

Soon after, I heard something rising behind me. I turned around.

A grotesque Abyss creature was slowly approaching me. In vanilla, there was no shadow wall, so I could just run away, but in Darkest Light Mod, that wasn’t an option. I had to fight no matter what.

Splash!

Of course, it was no problem for me. It was an easy foe after all.

As the Abyss creature’s body fell backward, splash, its essence scattered into shadows like water splattering in all directions. As the creature died, the shadow wall blocking the corridor crumbled down.

‘That thing is still here.’

I saw an old statue standing all alone at the end of the corridor. It was the checkpoint saving statue that had also been in the underground of the Rune Dungeon. I passed by without even glancing at it.

That was a trap.

If someone unknowingly sat in front of it, the statue would transform into an Abyss creature and swallow the player whole. While the damage itself wasn’t much, it would be like an instakill for me right now.

Everyone entering for the first time would inevitably get caught by that statue and get bitten at least once. The structure ensured that first-time players couldn’t avoid getting caught.

What was even more infuriating was that after munching on the player, it would swiftly run away, making it impossible to kill it. Moreover, this spot was the only place throughout Brightest Darkness 4 where the statue could do some scamming.

As I turned to look back at the spot where the statue had been, it had vanished without a trace. Tsk, I clicked my tongue and shifted my steps.

‘It must be below.’

It didn’t take long to reach the true entrance of the Boss Room. I arrived at a towering cliff, where I was poised to jump down directly into the Boss Room.

There was absolutely no reason to hesitate at this point. I firmly gripped my Blood-Stained Sword with both hands and jumped down.

Splash, as my feet touched the ground, it sounded like plunging into a puddle. Naturally, it wasn’t real water. It was just something that had formed into a liquid from the collection of Abyss.

I couldn’t remove the rune here either. If I did, I would get sucked under the Abyss floor and die. It meant I had to fight as if I had one Rune Slot less.

I can sense it… that disgusting smell…

From somewhere within the Boss Room, a voice echoed, shaking the entire space. It was the line that marked the beginning of the boss fight against the Creature Abandoned by God.

Boom, the ground shook. From beyond the darkness-shrouded Abyss, something was walking toward me.

This smell… you are surely that damned deity’s minion.

That line about being the deity’s minion only emerged if the character had raised either their Faith or Divine Power stat to 10 or above. Otherwise, it would just ask if I had come to die.

Well, such lines didn’t make the boss any stronger or anything gimmicky like that. It just changed the dialogue.

Well, good. If I kill you, I can recover my power much faster.

Bang! The thing took one last step. Even in this horrible darkness, its form became clearly visible.

It was enormous. I had to tilt my head up for a long while just to see its head. My head couldn’t even touch its knees, let alone one of its legs.

Six jagged horns stuck out from its head, and it had a total of eight eyes. Between its ear-splitting grin, countless sharp teeth were visible.

On its back, two enormous pairs of wings sprouted, and it had four arms. A grotesquely thick tail dragged along the ground between its legs.

‘Seeing it in person is even worse.’

When players cursed it, they would jokingly say it was a “deformed orphan abandoned by the gods,” but facing it directly, that comment didn’t feel like a joke at all.

Die for me. Then you will find eternal rest in the Abyss.

“Eternal rest, my foot.”

I smirked and pulled out the Sacred Catalyst tied at my waist. It was something I had borrowed from Selene for a while. It was necessary to have a catalyst to cast Sacred Spells.

I placed the catalyst on the blade and focused my senses, feeling as if I was infusing power into it. The catalyst began to glow brightly, radiating a golden light that represented the Sun’s Divine Power.

The sun had taken residence in my weapon.

Like a flowing river of gold, Divine Power poured over the Blood-Stained Sword’s blade. It shone with such intensity that it even obscured my right hand gripping the hilt.

This was the effect of the Sacred Spell, ‘Solar Eclipse,’ which had top-tier performance among enchanting blessings.

But I felt completely fine. The brightness didn’t faze me at all, and I could stare at it without issue. Naturally, that was because I was the one using the spell.

You insignificant creature. Did you think you could kill me with those tricks?

It was the same for it, as it faced the golden light mixed with sunlight and white light with no sign of discomfort.

Considering that even the Sacred Power directly unleashed by the Pope couldn’t pierce through the Abyss, it wasn’t particularly surprising. It would be ridiculous if this so-called final boss of the DLC got scared just from an enchanting motion.

“Well, why do you think I can’t kill you?”

I secured the Sacred Catalyst tightly back to my waist. With my current Divine Power stat, I wouldn’t be able to reuse the enchantment immediately after it wore off.

I needed a bit of time to recharge.

“Of course, I don’t expect to kill you in one hit. That would be absurd just based on your size; it wouldn’t make sense if you dropped dead after a few hits.”

I pointed my Blood-Stained Sword at it. It too seemed ready to seriously start fighting, gathering shadows into its four hands. The gathered shadows began to form weapons.

Flail. Bludgeon. Hammer. Axe.

Those were the types of weapons it was wielding. Each and every one of them was terrifyingly enormous.

Whether as a threat to me or just showing off, it swung those weapons in the air like they were nothing.

“But I don’t plan to just hit you once.”

I concentrated my mind and assumed my posture. There was no reason to be intimidated by that monstrous form. If its weapons were big, the motions would be clearer. The outcome depended on my focus, not its actions.

“I plan to keep hitting you until you die.”
