CHAPTER 91

Chapter 91: Chang Yi's Return to Donglin

The average person's physical fitness was rated at 5. Level 1 Awakened doubled that to 10, Level 2 reached 20, and so on, with each level exponentially increasing in power. This gap created an insurmountable difference in physical capabilities, making it impossible for those of lower levels to even imagine the strength possessed by higher-level Awakened.

To Chang Yi, being a Level 5 Awakened was the epitome of invincibility. Within the confines of Nanxiang City, it was an achievement that seemed unattainable for most humans and highly improbable even for zombies. Emerging from the black mist with newfound power, he felt justified in his triumphant declaration: "I am invincible!"

But the question lingered: What does an invincible person do?

The pursuit of greater power was one option, but Chang Yi found it mundane and uninspiring. He had already reached the peak—or so he believed—and now, his focus shifted. The thrill of the journey had always driven him more than the destination.

I'm already invincible, he thought, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. Why not enjoy it?

An invincible person should act like a great ancestor!

If I hesitate even for a moment, it will be disrespectful to my strength!

With this newfound philosophy, Chang Yi strode forward, ready to embrace his invincible life and all the excitement it entailed.

First, Chang Yi needed to recuperate. While no one knew what horrors lurked within the black mist, his injuries were proof of its dangers. Lacking a healing superpower, he relied on the exceptional constitution of a Level 5 Awakened to mend his wounds. The regenerative abilities of his body were astounding. Within a day, deep gashes that once reached the bone were now completely healed, leaving no scars.

Day 89 of the Apocalypse Calendar, Thursday.

In the afternoon, Chang Yi emerged from a hotel room, his injuries completely gone. After surveying his surroundings, he activated his superpower, telekinetically lifting himself into the air and soaring toward Linhai County. His mission was clear: revenge.

Linhai County was not chosen randomly. Before venturing into the black mist, Chang Yi had methodically surveyed the satellite cities and towns around Nanxiang. He had a comprehensive understanding of the terrain, the local zombies, and potential threats. The towering tree that had humiliated him in Linhai County was an enemy he could not let go unpunished.

As he soared over the desolate landscape, a familiar burning rage ignited within him.

[Chang Yi: Skill Activated - Heat Vision]

His eyes glowed a menacing red, scanning Linhai County for any signs of movement. Yet, the county appeared eerily lifeless.

At the heart of the county, a massive cylindrical object radiated intense heat, capturing Chang Yi's attention. As he descended closer, the object's true form became clear: a towering tree, hundreds of meters tall, with roots stretching deep into the earth. Its sickly red branches bore strange, twisted forms that resembled miniature human heads.

"Blood Flesh Mother Tree..." he muttered, recognizing the grotesque creature he had once encountered.

A murderous glint flashed in Chang Yi's eyes. During his previous visit as a Level 4 Awakened, the Blood Flesh Mother Tree had attacked him without warning. Now, armed with the power of a Level 5, he sought vengeance.

Hovering in mid-air, Chang Yi narrowed his eyes, summoning his elemental powers.

[Chang Yi: Skill Activated - Elemental Control]

Flames, ice, hurricanes, and lightning erupted from his body, converging into a maelstrom of destruction that surged toward the Blood Flesh Mother Tree.

The bombardment of elemental forces lasted a full hour, tearing through the air and raining devastation upon the monstrous tree. Yet, as Chang Yi ascended into the sky to observe the results of his assault, frustration gnawed at him. The tree still stood, its grotesque form unscathed, its resilience seemingly boundless.

"Unbelievable," Chang Yi spat, his frustration bubbling over. The Blood Flesh Mother Tree had proven to be immovable, its regenerative capabilities keeping pace with every wound he inflicted. Despite his Level 5 strength, the tree's passive defense rendered his attack fruitless.

An unsuccessful attempt! Damn it! This thing is like a rock bamboo, unyielding to the wind.

Chang Yi's anger burned even hotter. He hated retreating, but this fight had pushed him to his limits.

"I'll be back for you," he growled under his breath. "Once I reach Level 6, I'll rip you out of the ground."

But retreating without claiming victory was unbearable. Fueled by rage, Chang Yi turned his sights toward another target: Donglin County. He couldn't defeat the Blood Flesh Mother Tree, but a Level 4 Devourer would be no match for him.

Donglin County, though small compared to Linhai, held a certain significance for Chang Yi. The two counties had once been his playground, territories under his control before the apocalypse. His current animosity toward the Devourer that ruled Donglin was personal, and today, Chang Yi was eager to settle the score.

As he approached the county, Chang Yi's eyes glowed once more, scanning the streets for any signs of life.

His lips curled into a wicked smile. "Still here, are you?"

Hovering above the streets of Donglin, Chang Yi grinned, already savoring the battle that awaited him. "This will be fun."

The overlord of Donglin County—a Level 4 Devourer—was about to receive an unexpected visit from a Level 5 Awakened brimming with power, anger, and a thirst for revenge.

Chang Yi's temper was notorious. His arrogant, combative nature had earned him many enemies. In contrast, someone like Lu Ming approached life with calm reason, earning him loyal companions like Zhang Chengcheng, Huo Sheng, and Wang Xiong. Chang Yi, however, seemed to stumble from one conflict to the next, fueled by his own short fuse.

Now, as Chang Yi descended upon Donglin County, ready to unleash his pent-up rage, he couldn't help but revel in his superiority. His target was no match for him—no one was, not anymore.

As his feet touched the ground, a dark grin spread across his face. "Donglin County," he mused aloud, "today, I finally get to pay you back."

And with that, he strode forward, ready to crush any resistance that dared to stand in his way.
