Ja-Young's POV

Inside a dark tomb cave-like rock that surrounded me, I deeply contemplated my life.

"Where did it all go wrong?"

I whispered under my breath

My legs which I couldn't feel anymore, made me raise them and think of the boy.

Even though I planned to kill him at that moment because my mother deceived me, he still tried to save me first instead of killing Mother.

I don't know whether it's because he is just foolish and too kind. Saying these words is ironic of me but that action of him touched me.

After all... When I realized Mother Priestess had deceived me... My world shattered in an instant.

I've repeatedly questioned like a machine "Was my life all a lie then?"

But all the thoughts inside my head that returned were mock.

Tears then welled up from my eyes as I realized just how foolish I was...

I now realize that I'm a demon... A sin for being born in this world, a creature that doesn't deserve happiness.

Sob!

Soon, I let out a cry. A cry of someone unbefitting of my usual stature.

"Hmmm"

A muffled sorrow came out of my mouth as I tried to suppress them. Yet, it was not enough to hide them.

As I cried, fierce sounds of battle resonated outside. The battle between the boy and my mother seemed bleak to me. I was sure he was going to die. However, as the battle prolonged. I suddenly heard my mother priestess's scream and the lacerating sounds of flesh.

One question came to my mind as I heard of this.

‹Did he kill her?›

I muttered inside my head.

‹That's impossible he's only a master ranked›

Despite not believing it, the following sounds only made me believe that he truly defeated her.

Because... If not him, how did the demon suddenly scream in pain?

I speculated that maybe there was another person.

That was much more possible, but I soon shrugged my thoughts away. I wanted to see it with my own eyes but knowing how dangerous it is outside. I stopped having thoughts about it, I can't even get out of my place right now because my powers are sealed.

Hours went on, I didn't know how much time passed but the battle persisted.

Just when I was at the phase of being overly curious about the fight, the ground once shook again but this time the rock that surrounded me suddenly made a sound.

The sound of a body crashing onto the rocks which protected me.

Soon, blood started dropping from the shattered rocks to my face.

But nobody can be seen, only the blood that was left.

Slowly, the rock crumbled and turned into ashes.

My eyes wandered around and there I could see the huge demon's figure slowly walking toward me.

Bodies of disgusting dead creatures surrounded him but what caught my eye were the visible marks on the ground that were clearly marked that someone rolled at an unbelievable speed. Making me realize that it must have been the person who crashed on the rock.

Soon, my eyes widened in shock when I turned my head to see how far that possible person had flown.

Witnessing how far he went, my mouth went agape.

Because, the holes that were made from the houses were undeniably many, and there I could see a familiar figure.

If it wasn't for his black hair I wouldn't have recognized him.

It was the boy who saved me, but his body's appearance was visible he suffered a lot just from looking at his feet and arms that were twisted to an unbelievable degree.

Seeing such a thing made me even think that he must have been dead.

The pain however made me question, ‹ Just how much did he endure? › Because his state was by no means okay!

I thought that he must be in great agony, however, as I worried about the boy's suffering.

The life in my eyes disappeared when I realized that I was going to get crushed by the approaching demon.

Well... It's not like I want to live anymore anyway.

My life has been a lie after all.

With such negative thoughts engulfing me, I soon gazed at the red sky.

Before locking my eyes on the giant figure.

I wondered why he was going in my direction, but I speculated that it must have been probably the boy.

Minutes felt like seconds as I waited for the demon to crush me, however, his feet finally stopped beside me. He halted.

Slowly, his huge hand suddenly grabbed me.

With a huge grin plastered on his lips, he spoke,

"Ja-Young"

My eyes widened as he whispered those words, but before I could even process everything, his mouth opened as his hand that was holding me levitated before—

Crunch

He dropped me in his mouth and munched me.

My vision instantly went dark as the feeling of being crushed screamed all over my body.

It was so painful, my bones, my flesh, and my head that was ruthlessly crunched were forever inflicted in my mind.

I tried to scream but before I could, I knew that my head was crushed so no mouth could be used to scream.

However, the strangest thing of all was, when I felt that I finally died, my mind was still wandering.

It felt like my consciousness was floating in a dark space.

It was silent. So silent in fact that I felt like I'm going to get crazy.

However, that silence didn't last long when...

Tick tock!!!

The sound of the clock rang in my ears.

It was the same sound of my pocket watch whenever I waited for my prayers to end.

Tick tock!

Repeatedly, the sound of the time moving echoed while getting louder and louder.

Soon,

—Ting!—

The experience of being crushed suddenly unwound before my eyes.

Slowly, I realized that the world around me was turning backward.

It was an instant before my eyes blurred into darkness once again.

Just as I felt that I was finally in control of my body, I quickly opened my eyes.

My vision then, was immediately pierced by a blinding light.

However, that light soon vanished and the figure of the Goddess Aureon merged in front of my eyes.

With my legs bent and holding onto a pocket watch. I furrowed my brows, confused.

But then, suddenly, at the back of my ears, I heard a familiar echo.

Slap!!!

I quickly turned my head and saw a similar scene.

It was no other but the boy who had raven hair slapping Mother Tessi's hand.

"Huh???"

I let out a groan stunned at what was happening.

‹ Didn't I... die...? ›

I questioned inside my head, only to be followed by the boy's voice.

"How dare a trash like you try to touch me?"

Snapping me out of my revere as I witnessed the frown he expressed.

"I apologize if I startled you... I was only trying to ask if you're new here since I've never seen your face..."

Mother— the Priestess, quickly replied with a bothered smile on her face.

Yet despite apologizing, the boy let out scorn at her and even shook off the unseen dust in his hands as if he were implying that her hands were dirty.

Meanwhile, my eyes furrowed even deeper. The scene happening in front was too familiar when I first met the boy.

I tried to pinch my cheeks if I was dreaming but...

"Ouch!"

The pain immediately surged out of my face when I pinched my flesh as a result, my cheeks turned red from pain.

"Maybe it was all a dream?"

I quietly muttered, but the pain I experienced was too real to even consider it a dream. As I was lost in my thoughts—

A face suddenly emerged out of my sight.

"Ja-Young? Are you okay?"

Mother's voice echoed in my ears as her gentle expression softly smiled at me. I then realized that the boy had already gone on his way.

But seeing the face in front of me.

My eyes immediately turned wide shot as if I'd seen a ghost.

The scene where she sliced my legs was imprinted in my head.

Her smile which slowly turned wicked flashed before my eyes.

I wanted to scream, but no voice could come out of my mouth, I wanted to run but my body was frozen in fear.

My heart was beating so loud that I forgot to breathe, but then—

"You seem unwell? Maybe you should take a rest"

The Priestess spoke to me again, this time, however, her voice emited suspicions.

Trying to calm myself down, I swallowed my saliva hard.

Gulp!

As I forcibly smiled.

"Thank you, mother... I just don't feel good"

I said before I quickly strode outside.

With ragged breaths.

I went near the bridge where she couldn't see me and supported myself from losing strength in my legs.

"Hah!"

I continuously breathed for air while I tried to comprehend everything.

Thud!

Soon, my legs finally gave up.

"WHAT IS GOING ON???"

With shivering and pale hands, I tried to hug myself, trying my best to find comfort in it.

Slowly, tears began to descend from my face.

Hic!

A muffled cry came out of my mouth. Overwhelmed by the emotions I felt.

However,

"Are you okay?"

As I was about to start to silently cry. A boy's indifferent voice resonated in my ears.

My vision which was blurred from my tears then shifted upward toward the person in front.

Only to recognize that it was the raven-haired boy with crimson eyes.
