After soaking and enjoying a few peaceful moments in the hot spring, everyone returned to the capital.

When they returned to the base, everyone began to train harder for the exams since they wanted to participate in the raid.

All of the Black Bulls asked Alex for advice since he was the strongest among them and they knew he trained daily to improve himself so he might be able to help them all.

Alex accepted their request for training and showed them what the hell looked like.

All the members of the black bulls were exhausted to the point that they couldn't even stand on their feet.

Lastly, Yami wanted to have a serious fight with Alex to the point of breaking down and Alex granted it.

Actually, Alex fought with everyone on a daily basis, not just in practice but in serious battles where anyone could get hurt.

Only by experiencing hellish battles again and again did their talent would bloom and they would improve.

Noelle had gotten stronger to the point of using the Sea Dragon Roar at point-blank range.

If Alex had to compare then she might be the fourth or fifth strongest in the entire squad now. And once she would unlock the Valkyrie Dress, she might even enter the top three.

But it wasn't just the Black Bulls who were training enthusiastically as all the squads were doing their best in training, especially the Crimson Lions.

With Mereleona being the Captain, only hellish training awaits the members of that squad.

A week passed in a blink of an eye and before they knew it, the day for the Royal Knight Exam arrived.

The members of the Black Bulls entered the venue.

"...The amount of mana in this place is something," Alex commented.

"It is to be expected. Currently, most of the strong dumbasses amongst the magic knights are gathered here," Yami muttered as he looked around the arena as well.

"Asta~"

Alex was looking around when a cute face popped out from the crowd.

He smiled and waved his hand. "Hey, Mimosa, how are you doing? And sorry I haven't contacted you since our last date."

"Hehe... It's all right. I know you must be busy with the missions. After all, it's not that easy to take the first spot..." Mimosa smiled sweetly and replied. She held her hand and pulled it between her soft bosom which earned some jealous glares for some of the magic knights gathered in the venue.

But Alex didn't give a shit about them. If the girl wanted to show affection like this, then why would he reject her just for the sake of some virgin losers?

Soon Julius and Marx appeared on the floor above and looked down at them from the balcony.

"Thank you all for gathering here today."

Just as he said that all the commotion inside the arena stopped as the magic knights took their positions and saluted to the wizard king.

"Now, let us begin the Royal Knights Selection Exam."

Once Julius declared that the people cheered in excitement.

The King then stepped out from behind as well and stood beside Julius.

"Let me explain the details about the exam, after all, I am a royal and this is the royal knight's selection test." The king announced as he twirled his mustache.

"The exam will consist of a team completion: a magic crustal destruction battle tournament!" The king declared as a magic display appeared above them showing the image of the crystal.

Curious comments started to arise amongst the magic knights as Sekke just prayed that his teammates were not someone whom he needed to eliminate before the opponents.

"The rules are simple! Protect your own team's crystal, which will be placed in your area, and destroy the other team's crystal. The first team to do this wins!"

"If no team can destroy a crystal within the 30-minute time limit, the one that has done the most damage to its target wins."

"We....have....chosen this format because...."

The King started to stutter towards the end and seeing that Julius decided to take over.

"In the battle against the Eye of the Midnight Sun, several squads will have to work together. We thought this would be the best way to measure the cooperation and strategy skills you'll need at times like that, rather than simply fighting with brute force."

The people started to discuss amongst themselves while Julius cleared his throat to get their attention once again.

"Now, let us announce the teams," Julius spoke as an even bigger magic display appeared with the list of teams on it.

And there was no surprise as Alex was placed in a team with Mimosa Vermillion and Xerx Lugner.

Mimosa panicked as her face flushed red, burning hot.

'I am with A-A-A-Astaaaa! It must be fate. I am so happy... but I still have to focus on the exam...'

Watching her like this, Alex couldn't help but bring his face close to her ear and blow some hot hair.

Mimosa trembled, feeling a shiver run down her spine, blushing.

Alex chuckled at her reaction when a figure jumped on the stage out of nowhere, wrapping his arm around Julius's neck.

He was introduced as Xerx Lugner but Alex and Julius had recognized his real identity and maybe Yami too.

Zora Ideale tried to pull a prank on Alex but the latter turned the tables on him, letting him have the taste of his medicine.

Alex patted his shoulder and said. "Sorry brat, but you're still wet behind your ears to pull a stunt on me... Anyway, let's get along since we're a team, okay? At least don't get in the way if you don't have any intention to help."

Everyone soon found out their teammates as well seeing which Julius decided to go onto the next step.

"All right, let's head over to the main stage. Cob, I'm counting on you," Julius raised his hand and said.

The spatial mage named Cob saluted and nodded his head. "Yes, Yes, Yes, sir!"

Soon a door appeared out of nowhere and opened revealing a spatial portal to the the magic knights.

Alex and the rest of the magic knights soon walked through the door and saw the main stage, which consisted of a vast landscape.

"The battlefield has a wide range of different areas. Use them to display your powers to the fullest," Julius said excitedly.

"And here's the tournament chart, which we determined by lottery in advance."
