“Oops! I Prepped for the Apocalypse and Became a Zombie”

Chapter 7: The Canned Food Factory

When Xu Duoduo regained consciousness, she found herself in a vehicle compartment.

She blinked, staring at the ceiling.

"Qin-ge, are you really going to bring the little class monitor along? But she's already turned into a zombie, you know?"

"A first love is a first love, it's truly extraordinary. Even as a zombie, you can't let go. But the little class monitor has turned into quite a unique zombie."

"Yeah, can zombies even sleep? I don't remember headquarters mentioning zombies that sleep. I need to go through the survival manual again."

...

The voices from the front were a bit distant, coming from the front seats of the vehicle.

The light in the compartment was dim.

Suddenly, someone leaned in close, "No way, it's been too long since I've seen the little class monitor. I need to take a good look. Earlier I only got a glimpse, but she doesn't seem to have changed much? How is it, Qin-ge? Seeing how you're holding her and not letting go, is the little class monitor still as pretty as before?"

Then this person was pushed away by Qin Luo's hand. He impatiently said, "Get lost!"

The others immediately burst into muffled laughter, their shoulders shaking.

"Didn't we say not to tease him? Our Luo Shen can't handle your jokes, you know. But Qin Luo, they're not wrong."

"Come on, have you forgotten? Who was it that always said the little class monitor was his first love during Truth or Dare?"

"Tch, aren't you guys annoying? Can't you just drive properly?"

Xu Duoduo later realized that she was being held in Qin Luo's arms. She was still wrapped in a blanket. It seemed Qin Luo had been teased to the point of exploding, so after scolding them, he took Xu Duoduo to the last row.

He'd rather squeeze in with other supplies than stay too close to these troublemakers.

Suddenly, a burst of laughter erupted from the front seats, with someone teasing Qin Luo about his age, "How can you be so cute, Luo Shen? Hahahahaha."

Xu Duoduo also found it amusing, and even felt a bit dazed, as if she had returned to junior high. These voices were quite familiar. She matched them up and realized they should be the group that used to hang out with Qin Luo back then.

They were: Wang Weihu, Bai Shu, and Chen Xiaofei. She just hadn't expected that the three of them would still be together with Qin Luo, and their relationship was still very good.

"Awake? Don't listen to their nonsense. That was just me making things up during Truth or Dare to deal with them."

Qin Luo suddenly lowered his voice and said this to her, mumbling, which was indeed a bit cute. Xu Duoduo was more surprised that he knew she was awake.

Perhaps her expressions were too lively. Qin Luo pointed at his eyes, "Evolution, you understand? You've read the survival manual, right? I can see in the dark now."

As if he had finally found someone to show off to, he snapped his fingers, and faint electric currents even flickered at his fingertips, making a blue buzzing sound.

"See, one of my skill points. It's still not very stable right now."

Xu Duoduo was truly surprised. Reading about it in the survival manual was one thing, but seeing it in person was another. Just as she was getting curious, the compartment was suddenly hit hard, and an elephant's trumpet came from outside.

If she wasn't a zombie now, she would have gotten goosebumps.

Wang Weihu, who was driving, cursed, "Fuck, did an elephant escape from the zoo?"

Bai Shu immediately asked, "Has it mutated? What's the degree of mutation?"

He suddenly picked up a tablet and started searching.

Chen Xiaofei looked in the rearview mirror and calmly reported, "Level one mutation, enhanced limbs, increased hair growth, showing some atavistic phenomena."

Qin Luo reached beside him, grabbed a sniper rifle, and tossed it over. Bai Shu caught it and opened the sunroof, while Chen Xiaofei held onto his legs to steady him.

Then came several gunshots, pop-pop-pop. The hit elephant let out a cry of pain but still chased after the car, even ramming the bus behind them.

This caused the survivors on the bus to scream frantically. Fortunately, the driver was from the combat team. Even though the mutated elephant had knocked them off course and even scraped along the wall for a while, they managed to stabilize and continue driving.

Bai Shu's marksmanship was excellent. With a few shots, he took down the elephant. "Damn, good thing it was only level one. Otherwise, our few vehicles wouldn't have been enough to fill its teeth!"

Wang Weihu's driving was also very steady. Hearing this, he said exasperatedly, "These days even elephants are turning carnivorous."

Chen Xiaofei took the tablet and entered some information, "This is just the beginning. In a while, even rabbits will be able to eat a child in one bite."

Xu Duoduo listened, feeling chilled to the bone. Qin Luo beside her remained calm throughout, and even the three in front stayed composed after discovering it was only a level one mutated animal.

This world was truly going mad.

"There's a thunderstorm ahead in ten minutes. Let's find a place to take shelter."

Qin Luo glanced at the data watch on his wrist and suddenly spoke up. The other three acknowledged in unison, and eight minutes later, they arrived at a factory area. Wang Weihu and the other two went to clear out the zombies.

Xu Duoduo was also stuffed into the back seat by Qin Luo. Before he left, he instructed her not to wander off, "The apocalyptic nights are dangerous. Don't run around, understand? If you go out and get caught by a mutant beast, you'll really become a little zombie snack in one bite."

...

What's with this tone of scaring little kids?!

The little person in her heart was screaming frantically, cringing so hard she wanted to dig a hole and bury herself.

However, in reality.

Xu Duoduo silently watched him turn and leave. Finally, with the sound of the car door closing, intense noises came from outside, along with waves of exclamations and screams from other survivors, who seemed to be terribly frightened.

There was nothing she could do.

She couldn't make many expressions, only her eyes were still somewhat lively.

Ten minutes later.

Qin Luo suddenly yanked open the car door, leaned in to pick her up, and met her gray eyes darting around. He paused, then reached out to scoop her into his arms, "Hey, those little eyes are so lively. When we get back, let Professor Ji take a look at you. Who knows, you might turn out to be some new species."

He had never seen such a clever early-stage zombie that didn't bite people or make random noises.

Qin Luo picked up Xu Duoduo and carried her. She could only wrap her arms around his neck. This was much more comfortable than being slung over his shoulder, so she held on tightly, not letting go.

The factory area had been cleared out. Except for a pile of zombies lying on the ground and some bloodstains, the other areas could be made barely habitable with some cleaning.

Wang Weihu was settling the survivors over there, letting them find places to rest, and picking a few who could cook to prepare some simple food.

"Qin-ge, there are quite a few canned goods in that warehouse that haven't been contaminated. Should we notify headquarters to send people to retrieve them?"

Chen Xiaofei had finished scouting and came over to whisper when he saw Qin Luo carrying the little class monitor in. These days, supplies were more valuable than anything.

They could prioritize acquiring supplies during their missions, but they didn't have many storage cards.

Even pooling together, the four of them didn't have 500 cubic meters of storage space, which could hold very little.
