The elevator doors closed, enclosing Giovanni and Mewtwo in a confined space as it began to ascend. The atmosphere grew tense, the only sound being the faint hum of the elevator's motor. Giovanni stood tall and composed, his stern gaze fixed upon the doors.

Mewtwo broke the silence, his voice calm yet laced with an underlying curiosity. "Answer me something, human?" he asked, his psychic power emanating with an aura of authority.

"You can read my mind, Mewtwo. What do I have to hide?"

Giovanni's lips curled into a faint smile as he locked eyes with the legendary Pokémon.

"I respect you enough to let you live, Giovanni," Mewtwo replied, his voice steady. "But do not patronize me. You know there is more to this world than what meets the eye."

Giovanni tilted his head slightly, intrigued by Mewtwo's response. "Fine," Giovanni conceded, his voice resonating within the confines of the elevator. "What's the question?"

Mewtwo's piercing gaze met Giovanni's, his telepathic powers hinting at a deeper understanding of the man's thoughts and motivations. The elevator continued its ascent, the tension between the two intensifying with each passing moment.

Mewtwo's voice resonated within the small space, a mixture of curiosity and challenge. "You have amassed enough power to take over Kanto politically. Your spies infiltrate the Pokémon League, and your resources could enable you to establish a private army. Why, then, do you refrain from seizing control?"

Giovanni's expression turned thoughtful as he considered Mewtwo's words. He hesitated for a moment before responding, his voice calm yet filled with a hint of vulnerability. "There are people in this world, Mewtwo, who refuse to bend to the whims of politics and authority," he began, his gaze shifting towards the passing floor numbers. "They stand as a constant threat, challenging the status quo and disrupting the delicate balance."

A solemn silence settled in the elevator as Mewtwo absorbed Giovanni's words, his psychic presence emanating with a mix of curiosity and understanding. Giovanni's gaze fell upon his own hands, weathered by time and hardship, the visible signs of a life spent in the pursuit of power.

"They are the ones I worry about," Giovanni continued, his voice laced with a touch of melancholy. "Those who cannot be controlled, who refuse to conform. The world is filled with chaos and unpredictability, and an iron grip on Kanto is my attempt to maintain order, to prevent the chaos from consuming everything."

Mewtwo's powerful presence seemed to expand, filling the confined space as it contemplated Giovanni's response. The legendary Pokémon, born from human experimentation, understood the complex nature of humanity and its struggles all too well.

"The desire for power and control," Mewtwo spoke, its voice echoing through their minds. "It is a familiar tale throughout history. Yet, in the pursuit of order, what has it cost you?"

Giovanni paused for a moment, contemplating Mewtwo's question. His stern countenance softened slightly as he delved into his memories, reflecting on the sacrifices and struggles that came with his pursuit of power and control.

"It has cost me more than I care to admit," Giovanni admitted.

As the elevator doors opened, Giovanni and Mewtwo stepped out into a sprawling, dimly lit chamber. The air was heavy with a sense of anticipation and secrecy. Before they stood a colossal fortress, its towering walls adorned with intricate, technological designs that gave an otherworldly aura to the entire structure.

The chamber itself was filled with rows upon rows of towering monolith tanks, each one an imposing testament to scientific experimentation. The tanks emitted an eerie glow, illuminating the room and casting long shadows on the metallic floor. Inside these transparent containers, Mewtwo could sense the presence of monstrous, animalistic beings. Their distorted forms writhed and twisted within the confines of the tanks, a disturbing display of genetic manipulation and unhinged power.

However, Mewtwo's attention was drawn to a distinct section of the chamber. There, amidst a group of scientists and surgeons, stood three imposing containers. Each container housed a legendary bird Pokémon—Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno. These magnificent creatures were suspended in a state of suspended animation, their powers and essence confined within the technological marvels that surrounded them.

Giovanni turned to face Mewtwo, his eyes gleaming with a mix of ambition and conviction.

"I think you have lost your sanity in your pursuit of power," Mewtwo stated.

Giovanni snorted, his demeanor unyielding as he dismissed Mewtwo's words.

"Sanity, my dear Mewtwo, is overrated," he retorted, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "In a world full of chaos and unpredictability, it takes a touch of madness to truly create order."

As Giovanni and Mewtwo approached the scientists and surgeons overseeing the containers holding the legendary birds, a sudden surge of activity filled the fortress. The three tanks housing Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno began to emit a low hum, their surfaces glowing with otherworldly energy. Lights flickered and machinery whirred to life as the containers connected, forming an intricate network.

Mewtwo's gaze widened, his psychic senses detecting the convergence of power within the fused tanks. His curiosity mingled with caution as he observed the unfolding spectacle.

Giovanni stood with arms outstretched, a wide grin adorning his face. "My dear Mewtwo," he exclaimed, his voice filled with a mix of excitement and pride. "I present you with Project Thu-Fu-Zer!"

The scientists and surgeons stepped aside, their expressions a mixture of awe and anticipation. The container network glowed with ethereal light, and the room seemed to vibrate with energy.

Mewtwo, ever vigilant, extended his psychic powers to examine the amalgamation of power before him. As he probed deeper, he sensed the immense strength contained within the interconnected tanks. The legendary birds' energies merged, their powers intertwining to create something greater than the sum of their parts.

The room crackled with anticipation as Giovanni's vision unfolded. His ambitious plan had come to fruition, culminating in this moment of extraordinary fusion. The possibilities and implications hung in the air, and the weight of their consequences are palpable.

Mewtwo turned his gaze to Giovanni, his eyes filled with a mix of curiosity and concern. "What is the purpose of this fusion, Giovanni?" he inquired, his voice tinged with caution. "What do you hope to achieve?"

Giovanni's smile widened, a glimmer of excitement in his eyes. "With the power of Thu-Fu-Zer, we can reshape the balance of power in Kanto," he declared, his voice resonating with conviction. "I can transcend the limitations of the power of a Demi-God and secure a future where order prevails."

As Giovanni reveled in the culmination of his ambitious project, Mewtwo's mind raced with thoughts and calculations. Within the depths of his psychic consciousness, a silent monologue echoed.

How are you going to defeat this Ash Ketchum?

[ Saffron City Gym ]

"So this is the Saffron Gym," Austin observed, looking the building up and down.

" It looks…normal," Yellow exclaimed

"What do you mean, it looks normal?" Austin echoed.

"It's—I don't know, I was expecting some sort of awesome psychic dome setup or a fancy mansion. I thought that was the gym," Yellow clarified, pointing to a large house next to the gym. The gym itself looked like a stereotypical stadium, and not at all like he had been hoping.

"Not all gym leaders live in their base of operations," Austin clarified.

"Why not?"

"I don't know," Austin said turning to see a six-year-old child carrying an Abra-like stuffed animal.

"Hi," the girl returned, eyeing them. " Sabrina is inside."

As Austin and Yellow entered the Saffron City Gym, they were immediately struck by the grandeur of the place. The gym was large, with high ceilings and sleek, modern architecture. The walls are a pristine white, offset by bold accents of deep red and gold

"Why is the gym so empty?" Yellow asked.

Austin looked around, frowning, seeing Sabrina's doll missing.

Austin closed his eyes as he projected his aura.

" Pika, pi," Pikachu exclaimed as Austin quickly turned to a wall and opened it like a door they found themselves on a floor filled with young trainers looking at spoons in concentration.

One of the trainee psychics turned to him. "Why are you here in Saffron Gym?"

"I'm here to see Sabrina!" Austin said.

" What are you doing ?" Yellow curiously asked.

The trainee gave him a haughty look. "I am training in the talents of my mind. Observe."

He lifted a spoon and bent it slowly to a right angle.

"Well gee, I could do that," Austin said.

"Oh really?"

"Yeah—I'd just need a spoon."

"Show me,"

Austin accepted the spoon, considered it—

Before gripping it in both hands and bending it.

"Hey, that's cheating," The trainee declared.

"No it isn't," Austin countered. "You said you can bend a spoon with your mind—a person's mind controls all motor functions, right? So my mind told my arms to bend the spoon."

"Okay, I'll give you that one."

"Oh, huh," Yellow said. "...is that something I can try? I think I know how."

"You have the most invisibly atrocious psychic signature I have ever seen," the trainee replied. "I doubt you can achieve anything."

While Austin rolled his eyes as either the trainee was putting on a false bravado or he couldn't sense Yellow's massively psychic energy because it was sealed away inside her body.

Yellow shrugged, took the spoon, and held it in her hand.

The spoon exploded, making Pikachu yelp, and little bits of metal pattered down everywhere.

"I… don't know what to say about that," the trainee admitted.

Austin took another spoon as he held it out.

Immediately the spoon contorted further, folding in on itself until it formed a tight spiral, its once-smooth surface now crumpled and misshapen the trainee's jaw dropped as Austin placed the spiraled spoon on the trainee's palm.

" Don't assume anything you don't know about."

A few seconds later, the trainee's expression changed.

"Hey!"

...

The psychic trainee strode into the austere reception area, Yellow and Austin flanking him. The looming figure of Sabrina's father stood up from his desk, his piercing gaze sizing up Yellow with palpable disdain. Austin, however, seemed unfazed by the man's imposing presence.

But as Sabrina's father turned his attention to Austin, a transformation overcame him. His stern demeanor gave way to an outpouring of raw emotion, and he collapsed into a chair, overcome with tears. He wrapped his arms around Austin in a tight embrace, whispering words of gratitude and appreciation.

" Thank you for being friends with my daughter."

[ Omake Paragraph ]

It is often said that, while Growlithe is the pet of Arceus, Houndour is the pet of Darkrai or Giratina – an explanation that was once taken literally. Others had theorized that the differences between Houndour and Growlithe come from them being different species before domestication, albeit related ones. Recent DNA sequencing, however, has demonstrated conclusively that Houndour was the result of crossbreeding between female Growlithe and a variety of dark-type Pokemon throughout many generations – and their molecular clocks demonstrated that this crossbreeding took place after domestication.

In other words, Houndour is as man-made as the Pokeball, and their vicious treatment of strangers is nothing more than a manifestation of man's inhumanity towards their fellow man. This too has led to a variety of theories; some have thought them attack dogs, bred for war, their viciousness a means of making them better fighters. Others have thought them guards bred to protect their trainers from the ravages of psychics and the dead, their cruelty an unfortunate side effect. Perhaps they protected aristocratic estates in ancient times, or perhaps they worked with police or patrolled the borders of particularly isolationist villages.

When Houndour enters the historical record, they are found doing all these things, as well as acting as pets for those few who could tame and handle them – along with a sad number of those who couldn't. If any of these their original purpose has been lost to history.
