A few weeks before the start of the chunin exam

Inside Hokage’s office

Hiruzen’s POV

“There is no other reason to summon you here other than as I assume you already understand based on the faces you can see around.” I don’t know why I need to waste my time with these things. If it weren’t for Danzo I would have delegated this shit. But I can’t do that right now. Hashirama knows what he will do behind my back. The only reason I keep him around is so that I don’t have to dirty my hands.

“So it’s already that time…” an uninterested Kakashi said

“The other lands have already been notified right? I’ve seen them here and there in the village.” My useless son Asuma said. I don’t understand why he had to join twelve guardian shinobi. He doesn't understand that his chances of becoming Hokage decreased a lot once he has been a part of it. After all, he was guarding the fire daimyo.

After that, there was quite a lot of pointless chatter. I don’t understand how an announcement for the Chunin exam became such a big deal.

“So are there any genin from your squad that you would like to recommend for this time’s chunin exam?” I gave them a few arbitrary rules. Ant how the newly graduated genin should not be recommended for promotion.

To my surprise, their jonin instructor recommended all three of the new squad.

“Please wait a minute.”

“What’s the matter Iruka?”

“Lord Hokage please let me say something. This may be presumptuous but as for the nine names that were given I was in charge of them at the academy. Admittedly they were all students with ability, but it’s too soon..! They should be tested after gaining more experience.”

What is this fool talking about? It’s the best way to eliminate those clan ninjas. Nine tails and the Sharingan are the only people that need to be safe. The rest can die for all I care. Luckily Kakashi interrupted him.

“I became chunin when I was six years younger than Naruto is now.”

“Naruto is different from you. Do you intend to crush Naruto?”

“They do nothing but complain about important missions. Teaching them a lesson once would be fun. Trying to crush them would be interesting as well.” Kakashi please use the inner voice

“What did you say?” Iruka looks like he is ready to go to war.

“Well joking aside, Iruka sensei, I understand what you are trying to say. It’s aggravating, I know. However, stay out of this. They are no longer your student. They are now my subordinates.” You tell him Kakashi. He also has his moments. At least now the blame won’t lie with me. And everyone knows that accidents happen. Like the one that happened with the Hyuga clan.

In the end, I had to give in and arrange a pointless test for those brats. I mean there is no need to go to such lengths. If they survive the exam, good for them If not, they don’t deserve to be a leaf ninja. Most of the promotion is done using the merits. The whole point of doing the chunin exam is to show off the village’s strength. It also helps to eliminate some clan ninjas.

If 20 clan ninjas participate and 15 are left, that means that 5 elite clan ninjas are dead. This reduces the power of the clan. And since the mediocre ninjas are promoted based on merit, we maintain the power of the village. The best part is that these ninjas can never threaten my position.

Naruto’s POV

I saw Hinata training with Kurenai. It seems like she is still hesitating to fight.

“Kurenai sensei, can I borrow Hinata for some time?”

“Ok, but bring her back soon. I still need to train her for the chunin exam.”

I took Hinata under a tree a bit away from the training ground

“Hinata, I know you dislike hurting people, but that is no reason to remain weak. Will you give the same excuse when someone tries to kill me?” I can see the change in her eyes. I knew that I just had to give her a final push.

“you said you loved me right? Let me tell you what I love. I love a strong female who is independent and smart doing anything I say. Although I like you, I still see you as someone to be protected. And as long as that is true, I’ll probably handle you like a delicate vase. So let me give you an incentive. Do your best in the chunin exam and I’ll give you a night that you’ll never forget.”

There was determination in her eyes.

“I’m not asking you to win. Just do your best. If it’s still uncomfortable for you to hurt people, try to think of them as the person who will hurt me unless you incapacitate them.”

“I’ll try my best Naruto kun.”

Kurenai’s POV

I don’t like that Naruto boy. I can see Hinata wasting her time following him. Now he has the guts to take her away from training. It seems like I need to talk with Kushina san.

For now, I started supervising training for Shino and Kiba. When Hinata returned there was a change in her attitude, It looked like I judged the boy a bit too hastily.

Naruto’s POV

We were talking with Konohamaru when he crashed with Kankuro. I don’t like to meddle in the business of others but if the sand moron did anything to jeopardize the invasion, I’ll personally kill him.

“Esteemed children of Fourth Kazekage, I hope you’ll forgive the grandson of the Third Hokage for bumping into you.” I interrupted Kankuro before he could say anything.

“It’s alright. He should watch where he is going.” Kankuro wanted to say something but Temari dragged him away before he could. We then went to meet up with Kakashi.

Temari’s POV

We just reached Konoha and wanted to create some trouble in the village and fortunately, a kid bumped into my brother. Knowing his personality, he was going to give the kid a good scare. Our goal was to show everyone in Konoha that they couldn’t do anything to us.

It’s a good thing to have discord in an enemy village before an invasion. If the villagers were dissatisfied with the Hokage at his inability to protect the civillain from the Sand ninja, his attention would be divided. But before Kankuro could say anything, the blonde guy made this a political issue.

I always liked smart guys. But in this instance, I hated him. Before my brother could say anything, I accepted his apology and dragged my brother away.

“Temari, Why did you stop me?” This is why I hate my brother. One is a complete idiot and the other is sleep-deprived.

“You don’t get the meaning behind his words. He purposely said the relation to the Kage. Now if we make a move against that kid, No matter what the decision taken by the Hokage, we’ll be the only losers.

If he acts against us, it is justified since this is a fight because the son of the Kazekage insulted the grandson of the Hokage. It is an insult to the position of Kage. If he doesn’t take any action, he is a benevolent person who forgave the mistake made by the sand even though the victim is his grandson.”

I saw that he understood the gist of the matter. Too bad the blondy belonged to Konoha. I would’ve loved to tame him and make him my pet.

Naruto’s POV

We got the forms for the chunin exam from Kakashi yesterday. We decided to meet in front of the exam building half an hour before the allotted time.

After meeting Sakura and Sasuke at the entrance of the building, we went to the second floor.

But reaching the second floor, I didn’t stop and continued climbing. I had no interest in taking part in the drama that was going to happen. Sakura looked at me confused but continued climbing with me. Sasuke with his sharingan had already figured it out. Although I had not dispelled the genjutsu, I knew the answer, so I didn’t bother to read the question.

When we reached the classroom, I saw one of the most hated characters, Kabuto. He started discussing his cards with Sasuke. I knew that this time Lee would come to bother me so I took a seat with Sakura.

I really wanted to kill Kabuto right now but if I do that, the invasion might be cancelled. I can’t have that. I thought about getting him injured by the sound ninjas. It would have been fun if he was injured by his allies. But knowing him, he would just heal himself.

I would achieve nothing by doing this so I waited patiently.

“Silence Degenerates. Sorry to keep you waiting. I’m Ibiki Morino, the proctor for the first test of the chunin exam.”

Finally, it starts.
