Vol 1 Chapter 15: The Rare Crimson Moon

...

In the amidst of a Rare Crimson Moon, Master Shin and I fought to protect what's dearest to us. It's been a few days since we were fending off various creatures. Most of the creatures that we fought back then were just Madbits. If I were to comment on its appearance, it looks like a rabbit, but has a darker colour and large horns on its head. At first I thought it would be hard to kill one of them since they're in enhanced mode, but surprisingly, they're easy to deal with, since they usually attack on their instinct

The most surprising to me during these few days of Rare Crimson Moon is that, the creatures never really set foot near the house's perimeters. Master Shin already noticed it before I was here in this world, but he only thought that its because he kept the place guarded pretty well. Back in his days with the past Rare Crimson Moons, he mentions that he never encountered this much creatures either...

Then does this mean that this current Rare Crimson Moon, is more cruel than before...?

Moreover, if Ely's Blessing can even repel the enhanced creatures of Rare Crimson Moon, does this mean that it can serve as a safe spot of some sort?

...

But even if that was the case, the perimeters outside of our home are still dangerous...

...Especially like this creature that we're dealing with...

...

"Rui! Behind you!"

"I know!"

*Clang!*

As if you can land a surprise attack on me!

The creature then falls back

Thanks to my Spatial Awareness, I am able to see enemies and projectiles around me. I would've been open to many attacks now if it weren't for it...

Master Shin came up to assist me, summoning a barrage of boulders against the creatures

"Still...they're quite a handful when they're group together"

"That's Gales for you, they're a nightmare when in enhanced mode"

Gales, one that we're fighting against right now, is a flying creature that seemingly looks like a bird. Well to put more simply, its a mix of a wisp and a bird. They're pretty fast and can even manage to surprise me when caught off guard, but I can easily read their patterns thanks to my Quick Witted ability...

...The only problem is, that they attack randomly, and I can only rely on how they move...

And now, as if one wasn't enough, they're quite more troublesome when fighting them in groups

"They're completely on a whole new level than of those Madbits that we fought"

"Of course they are. They are high threats when in enhanced mode. Adventurers usually avoid Gales especially in spacious areas"

Because Gales can take advantage of their speed...

What surprises me the most is their synchronization as a team. Like Master Shin said, they're a nightmare to deal with when in groups...

...Almost as if, we're fighting a big Gale

"...But we can't just avoid them now can we?"

"Of course, who knows what will happen if we go back down now"

"Right...but that being said..."

I looked at the Gales, performing fast motions to block the incoming continuous boulders

"...How do we even defeat those thing?"

"I don't even know, I usually lead them somewhere less spacious to handle them, but looking at our current state..."

Lots of creatures can be seen lurking around our house, seemingly waiting for the right moment

"I don't think we have that kind of option"

"..."

They're troublesome when in spacious areas...but not when in forests...

...

...! I know!

"Master Shin-"

"Hm? You forgot you're already graduated?"

"I already got used to calling you that! But that's beside the point, can you buy me some time to do my plan?"

"You got something in mind? Sure, lets see what my former disciple can do!"

"Right back at ya!"

Master Shin then kept the attention of the Gales to him as I set myself up

"Imagine it..."

"Don't get distracted now Rui, just keep doing your thing!"

Imagine it forming...imagine it around the area...

...

"I can do this all day, but I don't know if I can get their attention for longer here"

Almost there...I can see it...

Slowly, particles of sand started to form around the Gales. changing into something else, forming into a hard substance

"...?!"

...until it was something I perfectly imagined

"Now!"

With my hands reaching out at the Gales, big spikes from the ground formed around them. Killing some of them in the process as well as shaking off their synergy

"What the..."

I slightly smirked at Master Shin's reaction

"...You can do Earth Magic?"

"I recently learned it a few days ago. Its my first time using it quite well to be honest"

"..."

"What's with the sudden silence?"

Master Shin was about to say something, but refrains as he looked at the matter at hand

"Lets talk about it some other time. What's important right now is the Gales. You managed to kill some of them, but what about the rest of them?"

"Killing them wasn't my plan"

"Huh?"

"Look"

Master Shin then looked closely at the Gales, struggling to navigate between the spikes I've created

"I see, that is a brilliant idea"

"Because of the large spikes I've created, their movement is more restricted, they can't take advantage of their speed now that there's a lot of obstacles in their way"

"Which means its easier for us to track their pattern of movement"

"Exactly! And because they're now distracted..."

"...!"

I then quickly killed the remaining Gales with some small spikes I created near them, throwing it with enough force

...

"...Now that's all Gales killed"

"..."

I looked back at Master Shin, who was seemingly assessing me from head to toe once again

"Something the matter?"

"...How come you can manipulate Earth Magic at your own will?"

"Manipulate? I just imagine how I would use it to be honest. I wouldn't be able to learn it without seeing it from you firsthand"
Master Shin couldn't help but get puzzled

"But that's impossible..."

"Impossible?"

"Earth Magic can't be easily acquired if you don't have any affinity from it"

I knew it, just like those I've heard in isekai animes...

"Then that just means I have the affinity for it right?"

"...That also isn't the case"

"What do you mean...?"

"I wasn't able to ascertain it the first time you did it...but when you killed the rest of the Gales, I'm sure of it"

"...?"

He then walked up to me as he said to me the most trivial thing I've heard of

"The Earth Magic you casted just now...didn't have any traces of Mana in it..."

...
