Vol 1 Chapter 8: The Master vs The Disciple Part 3

Countless and countless of boulders rained down upon me in every direction

Big piles of dust started to show as the continuous barrage targeted me

I accepted my fate, knowing that I would lose to Master Shin...given that this was a mock battle, it was treated as an all out battle

Yet I thought he was holding back this whole time

"I should've known he wouldn't go easy on me, he hates losing!"

But...

...

"..."

After a few minutes, the dust that got accumulated disappeared, showing no signs of my whereabouts

"What-"

"As if I would go down without a fight!"

"Tsk- Hmph-"

Our swords clashed again once more

"...How?"

"Don't tell me you've forgotten the training regime you've given me?!"

"..."

With his force, he pushed me away outside from his melee range, he then had a serious look on his face

"You should've died in that spell I set up, yet you're still standing, unscathed. Unbelievable"

"Uh..."

I probably shouldn't say how I was able to survive that, I don't know how he'll react...

From a serious look, Master Shin shifted to a more, calmer expression on his face

"Alright, I've got a pretty good guess on what kind of a person you are. Let's stop the mock battle for the day"

"Huh? but who won? Me?"

"Hm? The battle ended in a draw obviously"

"Obviously?!"

"What, can't accept it?"

"..."

"...?"

"...Its a draw"

"Good!"

"..."

Well...in that situation, it wasn't clear who was winning. In my opinion, Master Shin won, but in his view, we we're neck on neck

What's even more surprising, is that he himself acknowledged it was a draw! Is this the same Master I've been training with for these past month? I thought he hates losing!

"Oh right, about my assessment of you in today's mock battle"

"What about it?"

"Because of that, I'm now quite certain of who you truly are"

"Oh..."

Did I really gave away too much of myself in that battle? Does he already know that I'm not from this world? Crap, I thought I was laying low even though I was using that new passive skill earlier...

Yes, the reason why I was able to get out of that situation, was the new passive skill that I acquired, "Spatial Awareness". Apparently, I got it from accurately depicting where projectiles comes from in any direction with my natural ability

But because I was relying on my own ability, I cannot keep track of many projectiles at the same time. Hence why this new passive skill was a life saver

Its a passive skill where you can see every projectile as well as visible enemies in a set range in every direction. It helps me to know which of the projectiles are coming at me first while accounting other projectiles as well

Utilizing this passive skill wasn't that hard due to my other passive skill "Swordsmanship" working well with it. With my experience as well as this Spatial Awareness skill, Master Shin's countless boulders was just a walk in the park for me

Its even an understatement to say that I can do that all day because of my other skill "Stamina" at max, meaning I can literally last for who knows how long in that battle

But enough of the explanation on that part, right now, I want to know where Master Shin's assessment of me led to

"In a battle, you'll be able to know what kind of enemy you are facing by just fighting with them once. That's also the same thing with swordfights, one's swordsmanship can convey a lot of message to the opponent he's facing"

"Can we not talk in riddles?"

"...What I'm trying to say is, your character as a fighter is unique, very unique. So unique that never in my life I had fought someone like you"

"That's an overstatement, There's probably a lot of people in this world who has unique fighting styles like mine-"

"I've fought a lot of people, I've even fought many heroes. I couldn't even count how many, but never did I find someone as unique as you"

I know that Master Shin is strong and all, but I've actually never seen how strong he really is...

...I mean, how much percent of his strength did he use in our battle? Even if he did say that he was taking it seriously, there's no way that, that was his 100% power, right?

...

"You keep asking me about my true identity, but what about yours?"

"..."

"...Who exactly are you?"

"..."

Master Shin turned his back on me, and tried to change the subject

"We're talking about you, not me. As for our topic, you're something higher than a hero"

"Higher than a hero?"

"You really don't know anything about yourself?"

"..."

I mean, I do know what happened to me, but I don't know what you're on about

...

He looked back at me again, with a serious expression on his face

"Rui, You're probably the one"

"...?"

"You're the Goddess' Emissary"

...

What...?

...

Wait wait wait, I know that Master Shin sometimes says the most craziest things whenever he's in deep thought, and every time he does, its a joke of his, but this time...

...he's serious about it

...

Am I, the Goddess' Emissary?

...
