The Scientist of Monster Creation, forcefully Hired

38. A bit more Money

Chloe is currently trying her best to ignore Layla’s babbling about the newest Demon fashion and her Family and so on.
She told her already that she can’t retaliate to it, but it didn’t make her stop.
On the Contrary, she talked even more now, to elaborate what she meant even more.

If she knows it or not, her Bluntness and directness in social situations makes her a more pleasant company then one might think.
Because she recognises that Layla just wants to talk to lift her spirit a bit up.
All the Time not having a close enough contact dampened her mood a bit, even with the stretched perception of Time demons have.

And Chloe accepts that she gets an Ear talked off.
She can ignore it and deal with it, and it helps her.
That the Logic behind her behaviour. She won’t stop her when it doesn’t bother her.

Layla, on the other side, talked quite a bit about her past and so on.
She only talked about common gossip from her home Dimension, not wanting to talk bout other things.
Because of a fear Chloe will reject her when she talks about things pressing on her.

But at some point, it just felt useless, like not being a real Conversation.
It’s stupid, before she just wanted someone to vent it all out, even in such a Manner.
Now she craves for a real Conversation.

“Hey, Chloe?”

Chloe perks up as Layla calls her name.
I turn, Layla gets surprised since she didn’t put any special tone behind the inquiry.
She just wanted to test the water if she is really listening.

”Yes?”

Chloe wants to find out if she still wants to talk about the Tax system.
But asking about it will make Layla feel forced to talk about it.
She doesn’t want her to feel uncomfortable.

”I just wandered if you were really listening.”

”Only with half-a-ear. Nothing you talked about really peaked my interest.”

”Even about the Guy who pooped in his neighbours garden to make him think a big Dog is making his rounds there?”

”Not the first Time I heard about it.”

”?”

She couldn’t even contain her laughter after hearing it ten times, and she can shrug it away like it isn’t anything to note?
How? It’s one of the few story which can keep her entertained!

”Wasn’t it funny?”

”It was funny, I am just not one for laughs.”

“What was the last time you laughed out loud?”

”I believe it had to do something with a flying hamster, but flat jokes can normally do the job.”

”?”

What so funny that hamster can fly?
Did it have a collision at its migration?
And what are flat jokes? Written down on flat paper?

“What are flat Jokes?”

”? Want to hear one?”

”Yes, please.”

Layla gets polite and straightens her posture.
She doesn’t know herself why, but getting prepared never hurts.

”How do you make holly Water?”

Ahh, talks about holly things aren’t really appreciated.

”You boil the hell out of it.”

”Eh? … Pfffttt Hahahaha.”

It took her a few seconds, but Layla begins to laugh a bit.
Ot wasn’t very loud but she couldn’t stop.
On the end she began to roll a bit on the ground before she stopped.

But she let out a small laugh again when getting seated again.

“You got another one?”

”Yes. What do you get when crossing a Snowman and a Vampire? Frostbite.”

The Play continued for a bit, with Chloe recalling the worst of jokes she can without referencing to anything from her old world.
She wouldn’t understand, and it would break the mood to have it explain to her.

At a point Chloe thought was sitting, she brought the Subject up.

”What about the Taxing System?”

Remembering how Chloe can be a pleasant company to keep?
She can get the timing right and so on, but bluntness is called so for a reason.
And as of it came like the sledge hammer it was, Layla stopped laughing pretty fast.

“Would you even profit in any other way? All the reseller and so on?”

”When it’s guaranteed that enough people buy it, yes.”

”But when you just give it more time, couldn’t you have a higher percentage per sell?
It should be more profitable.”

”I would make less Money per Blueprint, yes.
But I use Money to make more Blueprint.
So when I have more in a tinier time frame, I can create new sources of income.”

”So you could raise more Gold and use it to earn even more.
Good good, but wouldn’t it still lead that you would have made less Money when all Blueprints are sold?”

”? Like I said, I make them.”

”No no, I can understand it partly, but you can’t make infinite different version, can you?”

”Well, infinity is hard to determine, but in emergency I could always go bigger.”

”? How do you create them?
I mean, do you can select traits and size or have already ready-made plans to tweak or so?”

”I create them from beginning till the end.”

”Your kidding, right?
Wouldn’t you be near limitless?”

”No, since o have to understand what I want to make, at least partly.”

”Wait! You mean you understand how to make a goddamn sentient fog?!”

The Brochure Chloe gave her Customer talks about performance and so on.
But it does reveal the Status or such details.
Since Chloe never told her, and doesn’t plan to reveal it, she does the easiest thing.

”Yes.”

”How?”

”Won’t answer. And would you like to be a reseller?”

”Would I make profit?”

”I imagine it like that.
You buy it from me to full Price, then sell it at people you trust to further sell it for a good price.
A cut of the price you sold it for goes to me, the rest to you.
And when the few you entrusted the selling with sell it, both of us get a cut.
And it can’t be further Wolf or transferred.”

“Is that possible?
Sounds like one of the illegal Schemes from my Home universe.”

”Well, a full functional economy would have some problems with that, if it would go infinitely, or rather, the people who have to call the shots.
But do Dungeon Masters have something like a market, or laws regulating said market?”

”No? I believe not. But I wasn’t very attentive in Economics.
Art of Negotiations and so on, yes, but to grasp the whole thing?”

”Then let me ask it like this.
Is there an active Producer or Seller of goods with a regular customer Base?”

”No?”
